Summary
Continuous autostereogram inspired by the continuous staircase in M.C. Escher’s ‘Upstairs and Downstairs’ (1960). The 3D image consists of a pair of staircases with curved stairs running between ‘landings’ to the right and to the left, and is designed for crossed fusion. Fusing the upper left icon pair to appear as 3 eyes (interleaved with 4 blue bars) will reveal an adjacent landing, and the stairs may be ascended in turn to cycle back to the initial landing, which will be found to be at the level of twice the original disparity (consistent with a configuration of 4 eyes in a row flanked by 3 blue bars). The stairs may be ascended cyclically from this new level until the page margins encroach on the usable binocular zone.
