The transmembrane potential surrounding a cathodal electrode (center dot), calculated using the bidomain model. Yellow and red indicate depolarization, blue and magenta indicate hyperpolarization, and purple indicates rest. The myocardial fibers are horizontal, and box is 4 mm by 4 mm. The details of the calculation are described in Sepulveda et al. (1989).
