The formation of molecular orbitals in Beryllium isotopes. The red spheres (right images) illustrate the location of the alpha-particles and the blue dumbbell-like regions the densities associated with the neutron-orbitals. The neutron-orbitals can either be arranged parallel or perpendicular to the separation axis. Linear combinations of the p-orbitals produce pi and sigma molecular orbitals.
