Cell bodies of some neurons (N), of an astroglia cell (A) and of some oligodendroglia cells (O). Nissl stain of the human cerebral cortex. The cell bodies of nerve cells consist of a large, round, light nucleus surrounded by cytoplasm. Furthermore, the nucleus contains a well discernible, black nucleolus. In glia cells, the cytoplasma is not stained, and the nucleus is smaller and relatively dark, particularly in oligodendrocytes.
